The International National Trusts Organisation (INTO)

Global Sustainable Islands Summit

We are thrilled to announce that a small delegation from the INTO family will be attending this year’s Global Sustainable Islands Summit, taking place in St Kitts and Nevis from 25-30 May 2025.

Thanks to the support of a TAP INTOTAP INTO grant, regional trusts and young representatives from their communities will join us at the summit.

In collaboration with colleagues from the University of Malta, we will host a roundtable session focused on cultural heritage. This workshop, titled “The Role of Cultural Heritage in Sustainable Development for SIDS and Island Territories,” will showcase concrete, positive initiatives that integrate cultural heritage into climate change adaptation and community-led sustainable development.

We need your help!

To provide our delegates and young participants with the best case studies and stories, we are seeking feedback from INTO members.

Our goal is to strengthen the argument for incorporating cultural heritage and local knowledge systems into sustainable development discussions and actions for SIDS (Small Island Developing States) and Island Territories.

Cultural heritage and local knowledge systems have increasingly proven their value in contributing to sustainable development. Local practices, vernacular cultures, and cultural heritage reflect deep connections with surrounding ecosystems and have supported sustainable livelihoods and environments.

Despite growing recognition of culturally informed and appropriate measures for climate change adaptation and sustainable development, cultural heritage still needs to be more prominently featured in discussions about sustainable futures.

This is where you come in! Please assist us by completing our short survey before Friday 25 April.
